McKinney, Dennis, 1960-
Dennis McKinney was born in Kansas and has resided in Greensburg, Kiowa County for many years. He earned his BA and MA degrees from Wichita State University in political science and public finance and administration. From 1989-1992, McKinney served as a Kiowa County Commissioner; after that, he served in the Kansas House of Representatives, appointed to that post in May, 1992, and was successfully re-elected for nine terms, serving six years as Minority Leader from January 2003 to December 2008. As State Representative, McKinney focused on bipartisan solutions for reforming education and health care in Kansas. He was also active on issues dealing with utilities, energy, transportation, affordable housing and workforce development. In January 2009, McKinney became the Kansas State Treasurer.
