USA for Africa
USA for Africa, incorporated under the leadership of Ken Kragen on Jan. 10, 1985, was part of a plan to distribute the proceeds of a musical recording to benefit famine victims in Africa; forty-five musicians recorded the single titled, We are the world, on Jan. 28, 1985, which became the quickest selling record in music history; over $53.1 million was distributed or allocated to projects in Africa and the US.
