Childre, Cecil H. (Cecil Hampton), 1911-1966

Cecil Hampton Childre (b. 1911, Brownwood, Tex.-d. May 28, 1966), U.S. Air Force officer, was appointed to Aviation Cadet Training in 1935 and graduated from flying school a year later. During World War II, he served at the Hondo, Texas Air Field as a senior flying instructor, director of training for the 2523rd Army Air Force Bomber Unit, deputy for operations and training, and station air inspector. He also was deputy chief of staff for the Pacific Division, Air Transport Command. In 1950 General Childre was reassigned overseas as deputy commander of the 374th Troop Carrier Wing for the 5th Air Force in Japan, and later moved to Far East Air Forces Headquarters in Korea. After serving in several key positions in the U.S., related to operations, training, and personnel, he was assigned as the U.S. Representative to the CENTO Permanent Military Deputies Group in Ankara, Turkey. His last assignment was as commander of the Continental Air Command at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia.
