Smith, A. C. (Athol Campbell), 1894-1972.

Athol Campbell Smith was born in Pilliga, NSW. His father was a drover. A. C. Smith was in the First Light Horse in WWI and became a King's Corporal. He was wounded in 1917 and stayed in the UK until 1927. He returned to Australia and joined the Department of Development and became Officer-in-charge of development in the Prime Minister's Department. He was influential in the founding of the Bureau of Mineral Resources. Smith became Assistant Secretary of the Department of Supply and when he retired was the Director of Defence Production Planning. He was the manager of the Australian Pavilion at the British Empire Exhibition. It was the only pavilion completed at the time of opening.
