Enslow, Mary Constance, 1892-1962

Mary Constance Enslow was born in Huntington, West Virginia, on February 18, 1892. After graduation from Huntington High School in 1909, she attended Marshall College and was employed as a substitute teacher in Huntington area schools. In 1912 she went to Chicago to enroll at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. Completing her studies in 1914, she began her career as a commercial artist, maintaining her own studio in the Fine Arts Building. As an artist, Miss Enslow did extensive work as an illustrator and a designer of bookplates and coats of arms, as well as much work in the field of advertising. She also served as an art instructor at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and for the Chicago Board of Education Adult Education Program. A published poet, Miss Enslow also served as editor of "Motif", the magazine of the Three Arts Club in Chicago. She was also a ghost writer of book reviews, newspaper columns, and job analysis. She died in Chicago on June 18, 1962.
