Barthel, Oliver E., 1877-1969
Early automotive pioneer who worked with Charles B. King and Henry Ford. Established the Barthel Motor Company which dissolved after one year. Worked as a designer for the Oldsmobile Motor Works where he designed and built a six-cylinder speedboat engine. Invented the taper automobile frame and was a pioneer in auto interior design. Also invented a lamp for use in chromotherapy treatment of diseases. Involved in engineering and relief work for various city of Detroit projects. Credited with 34 patents.
