The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs supervises all scholastic affairs at the University; position established at USC in 1968; during the 19th century, the President of the University performed these duties; by 1909, growth of the University mandated creation of the full-time position of Dean of the University to oversee the administration of academic policies and monitoring of students and faculty.
