Zatarain, Charles.

Sam Houston Jones was born in Merryville, La. He attended Louisiana State University Law School and was admitted to the Louisiana Bar Association in 1922. He practiced law in DeRidder, La., served as assistant district attorney of the 14th Judicial District (1925-1934), and practiced law in Lake Charles, La. (1934-1940). In 1940 he defeated Earl K. Long to be elected governor of Louisiana as a reform candidate, but he later lost to Long in the gubernatorial election of 1948.
