Kantorowicz, Alfred, 1899-1979

Alfred Kantorowicz (1899-1979) was a German Jewish writer, critic, and journalist with associations to the Communist party; he had to flee Germany in 1933, took part in the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1938, was imprisoned in camps in France after the outbreak of World War II, and succeeded in emigrating to the U.S. in 1941, where he worked with the foreign news service of CBS radio. In 1946 he went to live in East Germany and in 1957 moved to West Germany.
