Murray, George, -1878

George Murray, wagon maker, was a son of the tanner Levi Murray, and father of William A. Murray, Esq., a member of the House of Representatives from 1880 to 1881. George Murray died in 1878 at the age of 87. "Baileyville" was a village in Ferguson Township, ten miles west of State College, near Pennsylvania Furnace. In 1812, the village had a flour and grist mill operated by John Bailey. Houserville is named for Jacob Houser who came to Spring Creek in 1788. In 1883, the village consisted of a dozen houses, a blacksmith shop, a store, wagon shop, flour mill, woolen factory, a schoolhouse and two churches.
