Philologist and politician Louis-Lucien Bonaparte commissioned the Song of Solomon (also known as the Song of Songs) translations in the late 1850's. He had the book translated into 23 provincial English dialects by various authors. Louis-Lucien employed London based printer, George Barclay (later succeeded by Strangeways & Walden) to publish the booklets.
