Merchant, of Columbia, S.C.; native of England; husband of Sarah Cooke Goodwyn Hall; this wealthy businessman was responsible for construction of the homes known today as the Hampton-Preston House (built 1818) and the Robert Mills House (built 1823), both in Columbia, S.C.
