Wilcox, William F., b. 1811.

Wilcox left his wife Eliza and four children behind in Kelloggsville, N.Y. to go to California in 1852. He found no work in mining, and instead worked in Sacramento as a carpenter and wood carver. He co-owned the Empire Ranch, situated 23 miles outside of Sacramento in Placer County, and worked off and on as a carver, carpenter, and draftsman. One of his projects was doing the carving work on the courthouse and jail in Sacramento.

From the description of William F. Wilcox letters to his family, 1852-1866 (bulk 1852-1855). (Unknown). WorldCat record id: 702138585
