First Lutheran Church (Mount Vernon, Wash.)
The beginnings of this congregation date back to 1905, when Rev. H. E. Ingebretson began to serve the church. Formal organization took place in 1908, and the original church at South Second Street was built in 1910. The basement was built in 1931, and an addition to the church was dedicated in 1954. The present site was purchased in 1958, and a building fund goal of $100,000 was established in 1966. A building committee was formed in 1970, and groundbreaking for the present structure took place in June of 1972. Construction began in August of that year, and the first service in the new church was held May 6, 1973.
