Duer family.
William Duer (1747-1799) arrived in New York in 1767, settling on a tract of land north of Saratoga. Members of the Duer family include William Alexander, Lord Stirling (1726-1783), Revolutionary General; William Duer, 1747-1799, Revolutionary patriot; and William Alexander Duer (1780-1858), jurist and president of Columbia College from 1829 until 1842.
