Florida. State Road Dept.
The State Road Dept. was created in 1915 (Ch. 6883, Laws) to develop a state road system. It was reorganized in 1955 as a department of state government under the authority and control of the State Road Board (1955, Ch. 29965, Laws). Its duties were to define state roads; assemble maps and information about the roads in the state; and establish a priority system of roads. It also directed the construction and maintenance of state roads; regulated road construction contractors; managed state and federal funds for road improvements; and issued rules and regulations related to state roads. The State Road Board and State Road Dept. were merged into the Dept. of Transportation in 1969 (Ch. 69-106, Laws).
