Walsh, Louis A., Jr.
Louis Alfred Walsh, Jr., was a United States (U.S.) Army officer. He graduated from the United States Army Military Academy (USMA) in 1934; attended parachute school in 1941; and held a number of parachute command and staff assignments during World War II including participation in the battle of Guadalcanal. He activated and commanded the 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 17th Airborne Division including jumping into the Tagaytay Ridge operation in the Philippines and particpated in the liberation of the Los Banos Internment Camp at Luzon, Philippines. After the war, he attended various Army schools during the 1950s; commanded the 503rd Airborne Infantry, 11th Airborne Division, 1953; and became an assistant commandant of the Infantry School at Fort Benning from 1959-1961. From 1962-1966, he served with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Walsh retired from military service in 1966.
