Frelin, Jules Theophile, 1870-1956.

Jules I. Frelin was born in Alsace, but moved to Faribault MN with his family in 1885. He attended Mankato Normal School and taught in Arlington MN, also serving as school principal there. At the start of the Spanish-American war, Frelin enlisted in a Minnesota regiment, and served in the Philippines; after the war, he remained to teach French to the indigenous people there. He then returned to Minnesota to get a languages degree from the University of Minnesota, where he taught for 34 years. On retirement, Frelin began a trip around the world, but was detained in Tahiti for a year because of the outbreak of WWII. He returned to Minneapolis and died in March, 1956.
