Lifson, Nathan, 1911-1989
Nathan Lifson was born on 30 January 1911 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He earned his B.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota and his M.D. from Columbia University. Dr. Lifson joined the faculty of the medical school's department of physiology in 1939, became a full professor in 1949 and retired as professor emeritus in 1981. In 1987, Dr. Lifson received the international Rank Prize for his development of a simple method of measuring caloric expenditure. Dr. Lifson was also the editor of the American Journal of Physiology and Journal of Applied Physiology . Nathan Lifson died on 31 December 1989.
