Watt, Ian, 1917-1999
Watt earned his degrees at Cambridge and taught there and at UC Berkeley before joining the Stanford faculty in 1964 as Professor of English. In 1971 he was named Jackson Eli Reynolds professor of the humanities and was the first director of the Stanford Humanities Center.
