Horine, Emmet Field, 1885-1964
Physician, historian, collector.
Horine, a cardiologist in Louisville, Ky., was a historian by avocation. He researched the life of Daniel Drake, the noted pioneer physician and medical writer who taught at the Transylvania University Medical Department, the Medical College of Ohio, which he helped found, and the Louisville Medical Institute. Horine edited and published a corrected edition of Drake's letters to his children, PIONEER LIFE IN KENTUCKY, in 1948, and a biography, DANIEL DRAKE, in 1961. Horine also collected materials on and wrote about other early Kentucky physicians, such as Ephraim McDowell. In addition to his historical writing, Horine wrote and published numerous articles on the heart and its functioning.
