Horatio Walpole, Baron Walpole

Horatio (Horace) Walpole, Baron Walpole (1678-1757), diplomat, was born in Houghton, Norfolk, on 8 December 1678, and educated at Eton. He entered King's College, Cambridge, in 1698, and became a Fellow in 1702. He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1700. Walpole was a Member of Parliament, 1710-1756. He was Secretary to the Treasury, 1715-1717 and 1721, and Ambassador to The Hague, 1722 and 1733-1740, and at Paris, 1723-1730. He was created Baron Walpole of Wolterton in 1756. He died at Wolterton Hall on 5 February 1757.
