Eckert, John Edward, 1895-
John Edward Eckert was born on January 1, 1895 in Ohio. He received a B.S. in Agriculture (1916), an M.S. in Entomology (1917), and a PhD (1931) from Ohio State University. He began his career as an entomologist in North Carolina as a nursery inspector and then became Assistant Professor of Entomology (1919-1922) followed by Associate Professor of Entomology (1922-1924) at North Carolina State College. In 1924, Eckert became Associate Apiculturist with the United States Department of Agriculture. He was stationed first in Washington, D.C. and then in Laramie, Wyoming. Eckert arrived at the University of California, Davis in 1931 as Assistant Professor of Entomology and Assistant Apiculturist, served as Chairman of the Entomology Department from 1934-1946, and retired in 1962. Eckert passed away on August 19, 1975.
