Koons, Fritz, 1902-1997.

Francis "Fritz" Jefferson Koons was a long-time Bellingham resident, outdoor enthusiast and founding member of the Komo Kulshan Ski Club.

Born in 1902 in Illinois, Koons moved to Bellingham permanently in 1926, where he worked for Puget Sound Power and Light Company. Koons had an avid interest in outdoor recreation, attending his first meeting of the Mt. Baker Club in the 1920s, and remaining an active club member throughout his life. In the mid-1950s Koons and other local citizens organized the Komo Kulshan Ski Club for young skiers in the Bellingham area. In addition to his activities with the Mt. Baker Hiking Club and Komo Kulshan Ski Club, Koons was later involved with other local hiking and outdoor recreation groups including the Senior Trail Blazers, and skied regularly well into his eighties. Fritz Koons died in 1997.
