Right Place (University of Nevada, Reno)

The Right Place was a drop-in peer counseling, information and referral center on the Reno campus. A nonprofit organization, the concept originated during an alcohol and drug abuse meeting in 1976, called in response to two students alcohol-related deaths. Subsequent to that meeting, Dr. Margaret Rockenbeck, a counselor in the university's Counseling and Testing Center, and Tim Wilson, an undergraduate in psychology, began to organize the drop-in center. The Right Place opened on April 20, 1977, with student counselors to help with academic, social, and personal questions, as well as addressing alcohol and drug abuse. Records indicate it operated through 1978.
