Sutter, F. V.

Mr F. V. Sutter was employed as an Engineering Draftsman on the staff of the Consulting Engineer, Dr J. J. C. Bradfield, for the construction of the Story Bridge, Brisbane. At the time, he lived in Merthyr Road, New Farm, and began working for the company, the Brisbane River Bridge (later The Bridge Board, Bureau of Industry) on the 23rd April, 1935 after he was interviewed by Bradfield in February, 1935.

Mr (later Doctor) J.J.C. Bradfield (1867 - 1943) was born at Sandgate, Queensland, and was appointed the Consulting Engineer for design and construction of the Story Bridge in 1934. Previously, after receiving his Doctorate of Science in Engineering from Sydney University, Bradfield designed the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and was appointed Consulting Engineer for its construction. Bradfield had been involved in the building of the Sydney Harbour Bridge from its virtual inception in 1922 when he was sent overseas to inquire into tenders for a cantalever bridge. In 1924 he recommended that the tender of Dorman Long and Co. be accepted for 8 years, and acted as government representative in its dealings with the contractors. Bradfield also engineered the building of Sydney's electric railway system, and was involved in the building of the Cataract and Burrunjuck Dams.
