The first woman in her family to graduate from college, Ms. Allen-Castellitto went on to earn a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Michigan before earning her J.D. from Harvard Law School. A Professor of Law and Philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania, Ms. Allen-Castellitto is one of the nation's leading experts on privacy law. She is the co-author of "Privacy Law," and author of "Why Privacy Isn't Everything: Feminist Reflections on Personal Accountability." Her "Uneasy Access: Privacy for Women in a Free Society" was one of the very first books devoted to a philosophical discussion of privacy and its value. She is also recognized for her scholarship in the areas of jurisprudence, legal philosophy, law and literature, women's rights and race relations. Ms. Allen-Castellitto has served as the Board Chair for Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, as well as Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship at the Georgetown University Law Center. She is the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, including those from the Ford Foundation, and the American Association of University Women and the American Council of Learned Societies.
