Bank of Australia

The Bank of Australia, a joint stock company, was established in Sydney in 1826 and reconstructed in 1833. In 1843 the bank was in difficulties, a large portion of its liabilities having arisen from transactions with the firm of Hughes and Hosking. In 1845 a bill was passed to enable the Bank of Australia to dispose of certain real and personal property by lottery, and lotteries were held in 1848 and 1849.
