Committee of 33

The Committee of 33 is an elite organization of women dedicated to the enhancement and beautification of the City of Seattle. Formed in 1968 "by a group of congenial people who love their city and wish to enhance it in a meaningful way,” the committee was incorporated in 1978 as a non-profit corporation. Founding members included Anne Gould Hauberg (daughter of architect Carl F. Gould), Anne Robinson, and Jacquetta Blanchett Freeman.

The Committee is limited to 33 active members who meet regularly to investigate and discuss possible civic projects. Notable past projects include the renovation of the Prefontaine Place Fountain (1970), the restoration and installation of a Haida totem pole along the Montlake ship canal (1983), landscaping the South Lake Union Park (1991), and funding the Seattle Art Museum banners along University Street (1995).
