Bishop, Philip W.

Philip W. Bishop was a historian, economist, and museum curator who worked at Yale University and the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of History and Technology. During his tenure at Yale during the 1940s, Bishop was asked to prepare a history of the Scovill Manufacturing Company of Waterbury, Connecticut. Scovill was a manufacturer of brass objects such as buttons and other fasteners, screws, parts for lamps, tools, etc. Bishop began researching the company in 1946, using the company's records held at Baker Library. For the next several years, he gathered information on Scovill's history. Bishop completed a manuscript in 1950, but the book was never published.
