Gabel, Leona C. (Leona Christine), 1895-1980

Gabel was born April 15, 1895 to Jacob and Christina Gabel. She graduated from Syracuse University, A.B., 1915 and Bryn Mawr, Ph. D., 1928. She headed the history department at the Schipley School for Girls before coming to Smith College in 1923 where she was professor of history until her retirement in 1963. She was particularly noted for her work in European history from the late Middle Ages to the Renaissance and Reformation. She died August 1980.
