Utley, Windsor, 1920-1989

Windsor Utley (1920-1989) was a Seattle painter, a gallery owner, and a friend of the painter Mark Tobey. He was born in Los Angeles in 1920 and moved to Seattle during World War II. Although Utley has been celebrated as a Northwest artist, he lived at times in California, Washington, New York, Canada, and Italy. He exhibited his paintings extensively throughout the United States and Canada. Windsor Utley opened Utley's Art Galleries, first in Seattle in 1966 and in Victoria, British Columbia, during the 1970s. He moved the galleries to Laguna Beach, California, in 1983 and re-opened Utley's Galleries in Seattle in 1987. Windsor Utley died in Seattle in 1989.
