Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter
Between August 1944 and January 1946, close to one thousand refugees from war torn Europe were placed in a temporary internment camp at Fort Ontario (Oswego, N.Y.) to await the outcome of the Second World War. The majority of these refugees were Jewish and had recently been liberated from the atrocities of Naziism in Central Europe.
