Wisconsin. Division of State and Local Finance
The Dept. of Revenue's Division of State and Local Finance was created in 1972 under Chapter 125, Laws 1971. Under this law, the municipal audit function was transferred to the Dept. of Revenue (WIHV85-A365) from the Dept. of Administration. A Bureau of Municipal Audit (WIHV85-A774) was placed within the Division along with bureaus which oversaw the property, utility, and special taxes, and assistance to local governments.
The State and Local Finance Division assists local units of government by supervising administration of the general property tax, establishing equalized values, and providing financial management assistance. It also administers the state shared revenue and tax credit programs and the general purpose financial reporting requirements for counties and municipalities. It assesses all property of manufacturing establishments beginning in 1973.
