Time Magazine.
Halsey was a five star admiral in World War II who commanded the Third Fleet in the Pacific Theater. He defeated the Japanese at the Battle of Guadalcanal in 1942 and at Leyte Gulf in 1944 and Okinawa in 1945. He retired from the Navy in 1947.
