Mathews County (Va.) Board of Supervisors
Mathews County was named for Thomas Mathews, of Norfolk, the Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates in 1790 when the county was formed from Gloucester County.
The board of supervisors has been the chief administrative body of the county since its establishment. The board's duties are fixed by statute and are primarily concerned with maintenance and construction of county buildings and fiscal matters.
