Represented in the collection are Peter Carr (1770-1815) of Albemarle County, Va.; Jefferson Davis (1808-1889), Cofederate president, and his wife, Varina Howell Davis (1826-1906); Burton Harrison, lawyer of New York; his wife, Constance Cary Harrison (1843-1920), originally of Fairfax, Va.; and their son, Fairfax Harrison (1869-1938).
Also represented are William Johnson Pegram (d. 1865), Confederate Army officer; Edward Lewis Goodwin (1855-1924), minister and historian of Virginia; Wilson Miles Cary (1734-1817), and John Randolph (1773- 1833), politician and orator, of Roanoke, Va.
