Associated with a brass works in Huddersfield, England (1890); migrated to U.S.; went to Denver, Colo. area (1894) and participated in mining operations. Applied for a U.S., Civil Service position in Washington D.C. (1900). Worked for Navy Dept. at Puget Sound Navy Yard, Washington state (1902-03). Returned to DC area (1906). Worked for Dept. of Agriculture in 1930.
