Eaton, Philip W., 1943-

Biographical NoteAs students returned to the campus of Whitworth College for the 1992 fall term they were greeted by Interim President Dr. Philip W. Eaton. Eaton came to the presidency following the unexpected resignation of Dr. Arthur De Jong. A 1995 graduate of the college, former faculty member and trustee, the 49-year-old Phoenix businessman had experienced Whitworth from a variety of perspectives. At the time of his appointment as interim president Eaton was chair of a search committee for a new president. Eaton was professor of English (Ph. D., Arizona State University) at Whitworth for 17 years and left academia for the business world in 1985. Phil's wife Sharon is a member of the Whitworth College class of 1964. Two of their three children are alumni of the college. The folders in this relatively short file present a good picture of an active president very much dedicated to the welfare and the future of the college.
