Eric Voegelin Institute.
The Eric Voegelin Institute for American Renaissance Studies at Louisiana State University was established in 1987 as a humanities and social sciences research institute devoted to the revitalization of teaching and understanding of the "great books" of Western civilization in comparison with other traditions. Its principal activities involve seminars and conferences, research, publications, and teaching. It honors the memory of Eric Voegelin, a professor of political science at the University of Vienna who came to the United States in 1938 as a refugee from Nazi Germany. He was a member of the faculty of Louisiana State University between 1942 and 1958 and also taught at the University of Munich and the Hoover Institution of Stanford University.
