Grant, Edward, 1926-....

Distinguished Professor Emeritus of History and History and Philosophy of Science at Indiana University.

Dr. Grant's teaching career at IU spans more than three decades. He was instrumental in starting the department later to be known as History and Philosophy of Science and served as chair of the department 1973-1979 and 1987-1990. A prolific writer, Grant has published more than seventy articles and nine books, including Physical science in the Middle Ages which has been translated into eight languages. Over the years, he has received numerous honors and awards. In 1965-1966, he was a Guggenheim Fellow and was a Visiting Member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey twice. In 1990, he was named a lecturer for the Phi Beta Kappa Associates Panel of Distinguished Speakers.
