Oxley Memorial Library
A penal settlement was conducted at Moreton Bay from 1824 to 1839. In 1842 the district was thrown open for free settlement, and was administered by a Government Resident until in 1859 Queensland became a separate colony with the Moreton Bay District's chief town as its capital.
