Metzger, Jeremiah, 1876-1958.
Biographical note: Physician; Dr. Jeremiah Metzger came to Arizona in 1911 and worked in the treatment of tuberculosis, psychiatry and psychology with hospitals in the Tucson area. Born in Ohio in 1876, he came to California, then Arizona, for health reasons. He re-opened the Whitwell Hospital, later named the Southern Methodist Hospital, which became Tucson's first tuberculosis sanatorium. Dr. Metzger also worked with the Arizona State Hospital and was superitendent of that institution three times. He was a member of the Old Pueblo Club and founding member of the Tucson Country Club.
