William Wilberforce Mann, (1809-1885) a journalist and editor, workedfor the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS, COURIER AND ENQUIRER, THE SOUTHERN LITERARY MESSENGER, and the NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER. Born in New England, he lived in Georgia, Paris from 1846-56, and New York City where he developed his ideas on a metric measurement system.
