Lodge, Henry Cabot, 1850-1924
Henry Cabot Lodge, American statesman, Republican political leader, author and historian; he was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 12, 1850, a member of the influential New England Lodge and Cabot families. Lodge attended Harvard College, eventually graduating with a Ph.D. in Political Science, he then attended Harvard Law School from which he graduated in 1874. Lodge was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, 1880-1881, then served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1887 to 1893, and in the Senate from 1893 to 1924; he is credited with being the first (unofficial) Senate Majority Leader from 1920 to 1924. He suffered a severe stroke on November 8, 1924, and died four days later at the age of 74.
