Smithies, Arthur
Arthur Smithies (1907-1981) joined the Harvard faculty as Professor of Economics, after teaching in the department of Economics at Michigan during and after World War II. He was named Nathaniel Ropes Professor of Political Economy in 1957 and served as the Chairman of the Economics Department from 1950 to 1955 and from 1959 to 1961.
