A.B. Farquhar Co.
Arthur Briggs Farquhar joined Dingee & Co., York, Pa., in 1856; he quickly became sole owner and name changed to Pennsylvania Agricultural Works; in 1866 began international export of agricultural implements; in 1889 became A.B. Farquhar Co., Ltd.; became division of Oliver Corp. in 1952; plant located on N. Duke St. in 1876; early products included plows, planters, portable steam engines, boilers, sawmills, and hydraulic presses; became one of the largest producers of steam engines in 1870s; expanded to government ordnance in 1920s.
