King, A. Hyatt (Alec Hyatt), 1911-1994
Alec Hyatt King (1911-1994) was a noted bibliographer, musicologist, and author of more than forty articles and books. He began his career at the British Museum at the age of twenty-three and continued his employment there until his retirement in 1977. He served as superintendent of the Music Room 1944-1958 and was named deputy keeper of the Department of Printed Books in the British Museum in 1959. His research specialties included Mozart, Handel, music printing, music sales catalogs, and music bibliography. King was also active in the fields of musicology and librarianship through his membership and participation in organizations such as the Royal Musical Association, the International Association of Music Libraries, the Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum, and RISM.
