Cutten Club (Guelph, Ont.)
Arthur Cutten started the pay-as-you-play golf course in 1928 on the Macdonald Farm property adjacent to the University of Guelph. The course was designed by Charles "Chick" Evans and Stanley Thompson. After Mr. Cutten's death, Stanley Thompson purchased the club in 1939 which was then called Cutten Fields, but known as the Cutten Club. He also began selling annual memberships. After his death in 1953. the property was put up for sale, but a group of local industries purchased the Club and added a tennis facility in 1985. The University of Guelph remains the sole shareholder of the Guelph Golf and Recreation Club Ltd., now known as the Guelph Cutten Club.
