Meyer, Rita 1927 - 1992.

Shortstop Rita Meyer played for the Peoria Redwings of the AAGPBL from 1946 to 1949. She earned the nickname "Slats" because she reminded other players of Marty Marion of the St. Louis Cardinals, who shared the nickname. Her best year came in 1948, when she hit .232 with 12 doubles, 45 steals, and a league-leading 68 RBIs. The next year, she got married and left the circuit after the season. She was an extra in the filming of the movie "A League of their Own". In 1988, an exhibit at the National Baseball Hall of Fame was opened to recognize the women from the AAGPBL.
